Hogar de Amor

Well I promised more pictures from my Honduras trip, so here they are!

Here are all the kids ages 1-7 including 2 disabled boys ages 9 and 12. I had such an awesome time with them! I got to read books to them, eat and play games with them, paint their kitchen/dining room for them, walk them to church and back, pray and sing with them, pick them up and comfort them when they cried....I became their older sister almost.
 

Here are the girls ages 8-14. They are all so sweet! They loved having us girls come to spend time with them!

This picture reminds me of the verse in the Bible that says, "And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water...he shall in no wise lose his reward." (Mk 10:42)

 I love coloring - still! I just love sitting down with a box of crayons and coloring a picture. So that's what i did with this little boy at Bible Club.

 

There is a huge soccer field at the orphanage and we took the kids out there many times to play in the [scorching] sun!

Spending time singing, laughing, playing games and drinking coke with the teen girls! We had a blast! We stayed up until about 1 am with them AFTER playing basketball with them at the gym and being beaten by them!

The power went out a lot, but except for this one time, it always went out during the day when we were gone at the orphanage and therefore didn't bother us! This same night we had a nice big scare; someone shot a gun right outside our door. Then we heard whispering and people walking around the house. SCA-RY! Turned out to be the guard, and he shot a possum. Nice guy - scaring us out of our wits! Too bad we didn't speak his language or we would have given him a piece of our minds! Welcome to Honduras, as they say!

 This also happened at night. We were playing Monopoly at the dining room table, when I got up with the cell phone to make a call. I looked down and said, "Guys, who put that there?" [someone thought they could freak me out, right?!] They were all like, "No, I didn't put it there." Then we realized it was real; it moved a little bit! We let out a little scream!
We broke its leg as we caught it with that plastic bucket. There's a quarter to show you how big it really was!

 This sign was hanging up in the sanctuary of one of the churches we went to! Translation: Please turn off your cell Thank you.
Haha! I laughed at it because I thought, "Wow, what would people do if they found that sign hanging in their church this Sunday!"










These are homemade corn tortillas. They are THE BEST! I got to watch the whole process of how they make them! They have the corn kernals that they put through a manual corn grinder. From there they take it and add some ingredients. Then they fry them. And this is the amazing tasty result!

What are those?! Yellow grapefruit? No!  LEMONS! Yes, lemons! They are huge! I had to cut them in quarters just to be able to juice them!

And...our way of transportation.  I miss it, actually! I don't like having to wear a seatbelt here in the States!

I cannot take credit for this picture; my friend took it. But this is an amazing picture of the orphanage property.
Ok, the building with the red roof is one of the boys' (8 and up) dorms, as are the buildings surrounding it. Do you see the yellow school bus in front of it? They use that as a church bus. By the way, the church is the big building behind the bus.
Closer to the middle of the picture - see the green building? That is the gym. And the smaller building right behind that is the school. The buildings in front of the gym that are hidden by the tree branch in the foreground are the teen girls' dorm/kitchen.
The big building on the right (in the middle of the picture) is the kids' "dorm". On the right side are the girls (8-14), and on the left side are the children.
Oh, and the big green flat place is the soccer field/cattle pasture.

Missions Conference 2014

This missions conference was by far the best conference our church has had ever! I was challenged, convicted, and blessed!

Here is a huge map we have hanging in the fellowship hall, decorated with our missionaries sent out of our church and huge push pins to mark where they are serving the Lord!

Of course, no missions conference is complete without food! Haha! So this is the China booth. The food was authentic and absolutely amazing! Awesome job, Mrs. B!

The Mexico booth! (Located in Pachuca, Mexico!) I had so much fun serving up authentic enchiladas, rice, refried beans, and nachos!  We were shouting Spanish words and phrases, had the music playing and...yeah! I felt like I was right there in Mexico!  Awesome job P and D families, and thank you for letting me help out! I enjoyed it so much!

Serving the Lord in Honduras

This past January,  the Lord allowed me to serve Him on the foreign mission field of Honduras! And not only Honduras, but an orphanage - Hogar de Amor (Loving Home). I got to spend a total of four weeks there, and I had an absolute blast!

Here is a nice scenic picture. This is the view that surrounds the orphanage.

 We made friendship bracelets for the kids. I love this picture because it shows the reason we went to visit the orphanage: "...to visit the fatherless...in their affliction..." (James 1:27)

  I had such a wonderful time there, and I want to go back soon! More pictures to come! :)
